Villegas Appointed to Numerous Leadership Positions

Councilman Steve Villegas was recently appointed to positions of leadership within the California League of Cities.

- On August 9th, Steve was elected to the position of 2nd Vice-President within the California League of Cities, Monterey Chapter.

- At the previous City Council meeting, Steve was appointed by Mayor Donohue as the Salinas voting delegate at the California League of Cities. He currently serves on the Public Safety Committee for the California League.

Councilman Villegas Business Proposal Passes; Appointed to Gang Task Force

Last evening, Salinas City Council passed a tax deferment proposal that Councilman Villegas has been working on since being elected to Council. At the same meeting, Councilman Villegas was appointed to the Gang Task Force as an alternate to Mayor Donohue. The Salinas Californian reported that a ticket worth $37 million was sold in Salinas. The article text:


A Salinas market sold a lottery ticket worth $37 million, according to the California Lottery.

The ticket matched all six numbers — 18, 42, 22, 12, 1 and the Mega number 18 — from Saturday night's drawing.

The retailer that sold the ticket, Las Lomas Market & Gas at 307 San Juan Grade Road, will receive a bonus of one-half percent, or $185,000.

Jackpot winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim the jackpot prize.

Counting Saturday night's winning ticket, there have been three SuperLotto jackpots won this year. The last winning ticket was sold in San Jose and was worth $20 million. That ticket remains unclaimed.

Rodeo Sign on the Main Street Train Trestle?

Tonight, the Salinas City Council will consider whether or not to approve a sign for the Rodeo on the Main Street Train Trestle. The California Rodeo Association donated $25,000 towards this project, which would be in conjunction with the 100th anniversary Rodeo scheduled for this summer.
